Why Magic Tricks Are So Spectacular
Magic tricks performances continue to be as popular as ever, and have been taken into new dimensions by modern technology. What was once a strictly live performance has been transformed into something which can be recorded, analyzed, and scrutinized in great detail by anyone with some simple home recording equipment. There is also a greatly enhanced opportunity for new magicians to get their work known through the video sharing sites, and these also allow magicians to learn from each other more readily, increasing the standard of everyone.
In the days when magic was just starting to become a popular entertainment, magicians had a much easier task of satisfying the watching public. The performances were invariably carried out in a live setting, as no means of recording them existed at the time. People only had a fleeting glimpse of the actions the conjuror was taking, often at a distance and in poor light. The fact that performances were live meant that magicians could travel the country delivering the exact same act to a different audience every night. There was only a sporadic need to learn new material, which meant exiting routines could be endlessly practiced.
Magic tricks have been an integral part of variety entertainment for a long time, and during the industrial expansion formed a regular part of variety shows which toured the country, as well as circus entertainment and theater productions. Many of these tricks use the standard props which have stood the test of time, such as coins and playing cards. Playing cards are a godsend to a magician, as they offer a near infinite variety of tricks with just one cheap prop. The more creative and successful magicians added their own unique tricks using different props.
The modern era has seen a great many changes in the way magic tricks are performed. As soon as recording became possible, magicians knew that they needed to be perfect in their illusion. Now that video recordings on DVD and hard drive recorders can be stopped, played back at an extremely slow speed, and zoomed in upon, the opportunity is there for anyone to try to work out how magic tricks are performed. Many have tried, and few have succeeded! A better way of learning magic is to research the material which is available in books and on video. There has been many a magic trick revealed, even on the free video sharing sites.
The modern media has allowed for the most spectacular changes in magic trick development. With the colossal budgets of major TV stations and the sponsorship they can attract, it has been possible to create extremely dramatic effects. Among these are the apparent levitation and the flying or floating between two large buildings carried out on mainstream TV. A dramatic setting and backdrop can add so much to such technically advanced magic tricks.
